The first day of March sees the first domestic competition reach its conclusion as two teams remain out of the initial 92 who began way back in August at the start of the League Cup. Often seen as the most insignificant of all the trophies on offer during a season, apart from the Community Shield, there is still no doubt that both of these sides will want to get their hands on the trophy.
Chelsea and Tottenham have met in the League Cup final before when they faced each other in 2008, with Tottenham running out victorious on that occasion. Didier Drogba, who scored in that game, could well be in line for a start this weekend when the two sides meet once again and the Ivorian is one of only a handful of players who remain at their sides. For Chelsea, John Terry, Petr Cech and John Obi Mikel were all picked in Avram Grant’s starting lineup, whilst Aaron Lennon is the only Spurs player still at the club to have been involved in that match (although he is out on loan at Everton and won’t feature).
As for this season, the two sides met most recently on New Year’s Day when Tottenham inflicted a surprise 5-3 defeat on Chelsea at White Hart Lane and it could’ve been worse for the Blues had John Terry not scored a late consolation goal. However, with finals tending to be cagier we’ll be very surprised if we see a similar scoreline on Sunday.
Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur Betting Tips
- Match to end in a draw – Finals are often tight and tense and we don’t see this one being any different and fancy a draw after the end of normal time which can be backed at odds of 3/1 with BetVictor. Chelsea are favourites, but Spurs had the measure of them last time they met and when these two teams met in the final back in 2008, it was also a draw.
- Harry Kane to score first – The Walthamstow-born forward has been in fine form this season and he is priced at 13/2 with Coral to open the goalscoring on Sunday. The young striker is sure to be called up to the England squad the next time they head off on international duty and he has struck up a fine partnership with Christian Eriksen.
- Didier Drogba to score at anytime – The big Ivorian striker is a Chelsea legend, down in no small part to the number of goals he has scored in major finals and we’d back the experienced striker to hit the back of the net against Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Wembley and he can be backed at 20/21 with Bet365 to do just that.
- Chelsea to lift the trophy – Whilst we think it will head to extra time, we think that extra little bit of quality Jose Mourinho’s men have will see them lift the first domestic trophy of the season and they are clear favourites to win overall, on offer at odds of 4/11 with Sky Bet.
