Real Madrid host Liverpool and after the Spanish giants won 3-0 at Anfield in the last round of Champions League games, and things look bleak for Brendan Rodgers and his men.
Since that game Real brushed aside Barcelona, winning 3-1, whilst Liverpool laboured to a goalless draw with Hull and needed two late goals to scrape past Swansea in the League Cup, both of those games coming at home. With Real better rested and possessing far more momentum, the Reds could be in for a real beating and may do well to keep things semi-respectable. Madrid can be an awesome proposition at the Bernabeu and with Gareth Bale likely to be fit as well it may be a case of how many for the home side.
Prior to this one Liverpool face a tough trip to in-form Newcastle, whilst Cristiano Ronaldo and co make the trip south to Granada for a relatively comfortable-looking game. With the Reds likely to be without Daniel Sturridge for this one and showing no real signs of defensive improvement we can see only one result, a comfortable Madrid win.
The bookies, unsurprisingly, agree, with the home side priced at prohibitively short odds of just 1/4 with Coral. They may feature in a number of midweek accas – including our own – but as a single that’s too short for most. The draw can be backed at 5/1 with Sky Bet whilst an unlikely away win is priced at 12/1 with Bet365. Liverpool won at the Bernabeu in the Champions League in 2009 but they just don’t have the ability or belief to live with this current crop of Galacticos who have not only masses of attacking talent but midfield stability too through Toni Kroos.
A defeat for Rodgers’ side will leave their Champions League hopes in the balance with just three points from their first four games, whilst that result will send Madrid cantering through to the next round. Madrid will win, but how do we best profit from that outcome?
Real Madrid v Liverpool Betting Tips
- Real Madrid to win both halves – We are anticipating a thoroughly rampant Madrid display and backing the home side to win both halves is a nice bet at odds of 13/10 with Totesport.
- Cristiano Ronaldo to score at anytime – Ronaldo is a total banker, so to speak, with the Portuguese ace being more or less unstoppable in front of goal and even at odds of just 1/3 with Bet365 he has to be backed here, whilst you could take him to open the scoring at a bigger price of 21/10 if you prefer, again with Bet365.
- Real Madrid to win with a -4 goal handicap – We fancy Madrid to put their visitors to the sword and backing them to overcome a -4 handicap is worth a punt at odds of 31/5 here. 4-0 would mean a void bet (and your stake returned) but we can see the hosts getting five or even six here to land you a huge payout.
